July 19, 1999…GAO reports security problems with Online Banking

"Examinations of Internet banking that reviewed found that some depository institutions were not taking the necessary precautions to mitigate Internet banking risks," said the GAO draft.

The report stated that the two biggest security issues are authentication (ensuring the customer is who he says he is) and encryption (keeping transactions secure from hackers).
